Player of the year Novak Djokovic looks to complete a stellar 2011, as he and an in-form Andy Murray headline group A at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London. They are joined by David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych.
All eyes will be on Novak Djokovic for the last week of November, as the world No. 1 enters into the prestigious year-end Finals as the top seed. The 24-year-old has struggled over the past few months with a painful back injury, which caused him to cut his campaign short in Paris.
The 2008 title winner may face stiff competition from world No. 3 Andy Murray, who won a trio of championship crowns during the Asian swing. Despite trailing 6-4 lifetime against the Serbian, the Scot took their most recent finals meeting at the Masters 1000 Cincinnati.
Group mate Tomas Berdych heads into London with some much-needed confidence after snapping Murray’s extended winning streak in Paris. The hard-hitting Czech star will be making his second appearance at the event.
Rounding out the quartet of participants is three-time qualifier David Ferrer. Although the veteran has a losing record against both Djokovic and Murray, the former finalist will fancy his chances should any match go the distance.
Prediction: Murray looks to be the odds-on favorite to reach the semifinals in this group. The second slot is not necessarily a lock for Djokovic, who may lack the physical wherewithal to stand a grueling week of play in London.
If Djokovic is still ailing, watch for Berdych to play himself into contention this week.
