World No. 4 Roger Federer won his second championship title in as many weeks, having ousted Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Paris. The veteran secured his 18th Masters shield on Sunday.
Roger Federer took home his first BNP Paribas Masters championship Sunday afternoon following his straight-set victory against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The Swiss struck 20 winners through to a 6-1, 7-6(3) success in 86 minutes.
Federer quickly built a 5-0 edge in the first set then closed 6-1 on a trademark forehand winner. After a competitive second reached 6-6, the 30-year-old raced to a 4-0 lead in the tiebreaker. A final forehand error from Tsonga completed the dream run for Federer.
"I'm just really ecstatic to have played so well this week from start to finish," the 69-time tour title winner explained. "Basically from first ball struck against (Adrian) Mannarino all the way until the very end here. I couldn't be more happy. I have had many attempts trying to win Paris Bercy, and for some reason, I wasn't able to win it earlier. But this one obviously feels great and it's a special victory.
"I have had some really tough losses this year, but I kept believing that still the year wasn't over, I can still finish this year on a high, which that proves to be the case. Now I still have a massive highlight coming up in a week's time."
Federer will head to London in a week, where he is slated to finish the 2011 season at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
