Roger Federer says a year has made a huge difference in his outlook as he plays to win the Paris Masters for the first time in his career.
In 2010, the Swiss came to the Bercy arena amid a run of what became five straight events, losing in the capital to Gael Monfils in a semifinal. In 2011, the 30-year-old took six weeks off and missed the Asian series, but returned fresh to win Basel for a fifth time last weekend.
"I feel good, that's why I had a break," said the 16-time Grand Slam champion. "My program has changed with the years. Today when I was warming up, I felt, my God, it's incredible how good I feel. I want to play."
Federer's mental outlook is also more relaxed, with no pressure on the man who has won almost everything in the game. "Last year when I came here I was just hoping I'm going to go through one round and I was thinking about the holidays.
"It's completely different today. I'm not here only hoping I will do something good - I'm here to do a good thing.
"Paris is not a preparation for London (World Tour Finals from November 20). This tournament is the most important thing right now for me. I want to go to the end of the tournament and I want to try my best, and we'll see what happens."
