Fernando Verdasco is hoping to fight into a place on Spain's Spain's Davis Cup finals side against Argentina, but the former Top 10 player will have to rely on luck now that his ATP season has ended at the Paris Masters.
The Iberian went down for the seventh time on a hard court to Tomas Berdych, with the Czech moving one win away from a spot in the World Tour Finals next month with a 6-3, 7-5 win into the third round.
Nevertheless, Verdasco is hoping that he can be a part of the Davis squad for the December 4-6 final in Seville. Both main Argentine players are not in Paris, with David Nalbandian suffering with a hamstring and Juan Del Potro out with a worrying right shoulder issue.
Verdasco is keeping positive about his Davis chances. "I'm here trying to play well and to make a good tournament. It's the last of the year, and I just want to finish the year in the best way as possible," said the world No. 23.
"If I‘m on the team or not, it's the decision of the captain. It's going to be on clay and it's gonna be a completely different thing.
"If I play (in the) Davis Cup, then I will try to prepare and get ready for that final the best as possible, too. And if I'm not, at least finish well here and then go for holidays - which I will deserve."
