Basel's loss last week is a gain for Paris after Andy Murray made what would be considered a miracle recovery after claiming a leg buttock crept up on him in the night last week during his sleep.
The Scot quit even before his start in Switzerland, wasting the wild card he had snatched back from popular Basel local Marco Chiudinelli, best mates with Roger Federer.
But now, life goes on at the Paris Masters, with Murray glossing over his pullout and looking ahead. "I felt fine today," he said after winning a doubles round in Paris, last event of the regular ATP season. "Over the last couple of days I've got some good practice in and I felt absolutely fine. It was just a freak thing last week but it went away after three days."
The Scot, who nudged past Federer in recent weeks after sweeping to Asian wins and taking third in the rankings, is now glancing over his shoulder as the Swiss powerhouse closes to 250 points as he brings some of his best form of the season to the capital after a fifth Basel title last weekend.
But Murray continues to dream, wondering if he can somehow overhaul Paris absentee Rafael Nadal for second in the world behind Novak Djokovic.
"I know it is possible but it's just not in my hands," he said of a long-odds scenario which would have to fall into place at the year-end event starting in London

Nice article. It's definitely suspicious the way murray bounced back from injury to playing both singles and doubles!!!
Maybe Roger will teach murray a lesson or two.

" a miracle recovery after claiming a leg buttock crept up on him in the night".....I'm sorry but that comes off too funny.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt regarding the injury. No suspicions at all. But I kind of have a problem with the Basel organizers here. I didn't know they had already given the WC to Marco. That seems a bit cruel to snatch it away from him like that. He's from Basel for crying out loud! I guess in a way it was poetic justice or some sort of 'Godsmack' that he ended up getting it back, even though he didn't win the match.

In the end it doesnt even matter. What was he thinking entering Basel? He tried to take it to Fed and put a largermargin between them. He gave priority to the shortterm, but he came in time to the conclusion that such thinking is not winning any slams. But he stillis makoing mistakes thatFed never makes. I read on another thread that he is doubling with one of the GB players to make them some points or money..... I cannot believe that this is true? Is he really wanting to win slams then he should not be so altruistic. Maybe he wants his friends around him.

AndyM wouldnt have pulled out of Basel without genuine reason especially as it ment letting his brother down. WC card being taken from Marco Chiudinelli and given to AndyM, not fair but not Andys fault, down to the organisers. Of course AndyM was going to accept it given how well he played in Asian swing he will want to capitalise and end the season on a high.

Mojo. An elite player who has aserious businessin tennis wil have to take care that his body is ok so him withdrawing is no big deal. In majors they can take some risk only if the injury doesnot become worse.
So no problem with him withdrawing. I have issues with him entering the event after the asian swing. I am not a pro buit I know that it is good for body and mind to take some time off after long travelling and much play/
So he did it for his Bro entering Basel? If that is true and he is planning tournements with other british players friends to double. Then I feel he is not ready to have crack at the big guns. (and I mean top 3) but only then. He can not reach his goals when he thinks about otherseven if they are secondairy to his succes.
How canI put this mildly... There is no room for gifts or other sort of sharing your succes with friends on the court. If he wanted to do good he should start a foundation of he hasnt already. But come tennis there can be only one. All three of them are very very very egocentric when it comes to tennis. Do not think otherwise.

What a cynical (& snide) little piece.
He wouldn't have entered Basel with his brother only to pull out a few hours before.
Grow up.
