World No. 5 David Ferrer returns to hard-court action for the second week of November, as the ATP World Tour wraps up the regular season in Paris. The Spaniard enters the Masters 1000 event as the fourth seed.
David Ferrer will make his immediate return to competition following a semifinal loss to Juan Monaco in Valencia. With the absence of Rafael Nadal, the 29-year-old has been seeded fourth in the 48-player draw.
Ferrer is 54-16 entering into the final tournament of the regular season. He is twice a quarterfinalist in Paris, having made the last eight in 2005 and 2007.
The world No. 5 tops a competitive quarter of the draw which includes (8) Gael Monfils and (14) Alexandr Dolgopolov. Additional entrants in the section include Mikhail Youzhny, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Stanislas Wawrinka, John Isner, Michael Llodra and Feliciano Lopez.
Twelfth seed Juan Martin Del Potro was placed in Ferrer’s quarter as well, but he had to pull out with a shoulder injury.
After a first-round bye, Ferrer is scheduled to begin his run against either compatriot Ferrero or qualifier Nicolas Mahut in the opening round. The closest seed to the Spaniard is Dolgopolov, who looms as a possible round of 16 opponent. Successful progression through the draw may set a quarterfinal clash with Monfils.
