  • Argentine absence in Paris with Nalbandian, Del Potro out

    11/7/11 8:46 PM | Johan Lindahl
Argentine absence in Paris with Nalbandian, Del Potro out Argentina will be without a singles player at the Paris Masters after Juan Del Potro joined compatriot David Nalbandian in missing the final event of the regular ATP season after injuring his shoulder last week in Valencia.

The decision also ends any chance for the 2009 US Open winner to fight for one of three remaining places in the ATP year-end final in London starting in a fortnight.

Nalbandian has not been on court since withdrawing prior to a Stockholm quarterfinal last month with a hamstring problem. He and Del Potro make up the bulk of the Argentine attack for the underdog side due to play Spain for the Davis Cup trophy December 2-4 in Seville.

Del Potro had stood provisional 10th for the eight-man World Tour Finals in London starting November 20, with a chance to advance to a place in the field with a top Paris showing at the Bercy arena.

Spain's Rafael Nadal is also skipping Paris, preferring to train and rest prior to back-to-back dates in London and Seville.
