Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka put on a show for the Swiss crowd, with Federer eventually winning in straight sets.
Stanislas Wawrinka has played second fiddle to Davis Cup teammate Roger Federer for the entirety of his professional tennis career. Wawrinka is often called "the Swiss number 2." Worse for Wawrinka than the knowledge that he will never be as popular as his compatriot is the fact that Federer has completely owned him on the court.
Coming into this semifinal, Federer had secured nine wins over his countryman, while giving up just one loss. The overwhelming favorite, Federer wasn't particularly convincing in the first set. Wawrinka was able to keep the match close as each man surrendered a service break.
Wawrinka forced a tiebreaker, but he wasn't quite good enough to snag the lead.
With the first set gone, Wawrinka's game sagged in the second. Federer displayed the kind of brilliance that earned him the nickname "Maestro" and Wawrinka was left in the dust.
Federer will take on surprise finalist Kei Nishikori on Sunday.
