  • Federer looks to maintain momentum in Paris

    11/6/11 10:07 PM | Ricky Dimon
Federer looks to maintain momentum in Paris Fresh off his Basel title, Roger Federer heads to Paris this week for the last Masters event of the season. Federer headlines a quarter of the draw that also includes Mardy Fish and Gilles Simon.

Roger Federer will be back in action at the BNP Paribas Open this week after capturing his second consecutive Basel title on Sunday. Federer took care of Kei Nishikori in the final and is now set for his last event prior to the year-end World Tour Finals.

The third-ranked Swiss is the only player in the third quarter of the Paris draw who has already locked up a spot in London. Mardy Fish is in prime position to clinch a place and Gilles Simon needs to win the title in order to have any chance. Fish and Simon are on a collision course for the third round.

Both Fish and Simon could face tough openers. The seventh-seeded American awaits either Florian Mayer or Radek Stepanek while Simon will go up against either qualifier Donald Young or Valencia runner-up Juan Monaco.

Federer will begin his campaign against either Dmitry Tursunov or wild card Adrian Mannarino. The No. 3 seed's closest fellow seed is Frenchman Richard Gasquet.
