Roger Federer defeated Kei Nishikori to capture his fifth Basel crown in six years.
Roger Federer required just an hour and 12 minutes to dismantle Japan’s Kei Nishikori and snag his second title of the year.
Federer’s dominance was absolute from the first ball struck. Nishikori faced down 13 break points. He managed to save nine of them, but the four breaks that Federer pocketed were enough to give the world No. 4 a comprehensive victory.
The Swiss hero stuck with tradition, treating the ballkids to pizza and some face time. Federer himself spent time in his youth playing ball kid at the Basel tournament.
Federer moves on to the Paris Masters prior to the year-end event in London.

Federer is the one who began the "pizzas' tradition", after his very first win.

This years Paris masters may well be Roger's last chance at winning the tournament.
Next year some schedule changes are going to take place and Basel, Paris and the WTF will be in 3 consecutive weeks.
I don't think Roger will give up on Basel to play Paris and I also think he won't play 3 tournaments in 3 consecutive weeks beacuse he would end up spent for the WTF.
It'll definitely be interesting to see next year's Paris player's field given how bad it is this year already next year it can be a disaster.

bleck, there are no formal withdrawals yet, part from nadal. Is it certain novak won't be playing or murray?
Fleur , 11/7/11 11:12 AM
Fleur, Both djokovic and murray will be playing the Paris tournament.

bleck, yes, have they made formalised statements to anyone? Are the injuries recovered now?
Fleur , 11/7/11 5:21 PM
Fleur, There was a message on the tournament twitter that djokovic would play.
However murray and djokovic don't need to formalise anything. They're playing Paris unless they say otherwise. So for now they are.
But I feel they aren't in the best of shapes and to risk agravating the injury before the WTF seems stupid to me.
