Back problems could keep two-time Grand Slam doubles champion Jurgen Melzer from a year-end date in London after the Austrian was forced to withdraw from his last two ATP events of the season.
The former world No. 9 in singles earlier this year - he's now 26th - was forced to pull from this week's Swiss Indoors in Basel and will miss the Paris Bercy Masters as well starting on Monday.
The Melzer camp says the 30-year-old is unlikely to make it for the ATP World Tour Finals in London from November 27, where he and German doubles partner Philipp Petzschner are qualified. The pair won the US Open crown after earning a surprise Wimbledon title in 2010.
The Melzer camp was disappointed about the injury problem, with manager Ronnie Leitgeb saying: "It's a very difficult decision to probably end the season here. But it's his only chance to recover 100 percent.”
Melzer was coming off a home disappointment last week in Vienna, where he lost in the singles quarterfinals after winning the event for the last two years.
