Third seed Tomas Berdych won his first ATP World Tour title in more than two years after rallying to oust Marin Cilic in three sets. The Czech successfully boosted his career title tally to six on Sunday.
World No. 10 Tomas Berdych took home his first championship title since 2009, having downed Marin Cilic in three sets. The 26-year-old surrendered the opening set, then recovered to win the match in three, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Berdych collected seven aces and four service breaks through two hours and one minute of play.
After splitting the first two sets, Berdych broke at 2-1 in the final set. He snagged an insurance break to 5-1 with help from aggressive baseline play. Double championship point came in short order for Berdych, who closed once Cilic missed a service return.
"To win this title means really a lot to me because it's after 29 months," said Berdych. "It was quite a long time, so I'm happy that I could break this up. I think I couldn't have a better place to win a title than here in Beijing.
"I did a great move to have a good chance to qualify for London. Still, these two weeks in Shanghai and Paris I really need to do well. I want to do well. It just gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season and for the rest of the tournaments. So I'm really looking forward to that. I hope I can keep my level of game what I did and hopefully to win even more matches."

Well done Berdych!
He really played well this whole tournament, and was especially impressive against Tsonga in the semifinal. Eagerly awaiting the potential meeting with Rafa in the QF of the Shanghai Masters.
Though Cilic lost in yet another final, it's good to see him playing well again. I like the way he strikes the ball and mixing in some slices and volleying. The fact that he can stay with Berdych throughout the match and holding his ground for two sets shows me he's getting his game back on track. He's due to meet Fish in the third round at Shanghai, another good test for him. I hope he does well for the remainer of this season and gets ready for the coming 2012.
