Marin Cilic advanced to the Bejing championship final after knocking out compatriot Ivan Ljubicic in straight sets. The 23-year-old will face tournament seed Tomas Berdych for the title.
Marin Cilic made his third final of the season, having ousted veteran Ivan Ljubicic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. The world No. 25 collected 13 aces and three service breaks through an hour and 38 minutes.
Cilic broke serve at 4-4 in the opening set and 2-2 in the second. Three match points came quickly for the 23-year-old, who closed on a forehand error from the veteran.
"To be a second time in the Beijing final is great feeling coming after this summer," said Cilic. "I played some great tournaments, and I mentioned that I was in pretty good form. That pleases me a lot, that I know when I play well that I can beat those guys and that my tennis is on a good level."
Cilic completed the effort with seven of seven break points saved and 82% of his first-service points won.
