Third seed Tomas Berdych earned his first finals berth of the season, having ousted top seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in three sets. The Czech will square off against Marin Cilic for the China Open title.
World No. 10 Tomas Berdych is through to his first final of the year following his three-set victory over world No. 7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The 26-year-old Czech held 13 of 14 service games en route to a 6-4, 4-6 6-1 semifinal win in two hours and seven minutes.
After splitting the first two sets, Berdych pocketed four consecutive games to 5-1 in the third. Berdych reached match point at 5-1, then closed with his eighth ace of the day. He completed the effort with three service breaks and 88% of his first-service points captured.
"(The final) could really change my season from good season to really good season," explained Berdych. "So that's just the one thing I'm looking forward for tomorrow. That's it."
Berdych will be looking to win his first ATP World Tour title since 2009.
