    Verdasco beats Llodra in Beijing opener Fernando Verdasco moved into the round of 16 after downing veteran Michael Llodra in straight sets. Eighth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov failed to advance, having lost his first-round match to qualifier Flavio Cipolla.

    World No. 23 Fernando Verdasco is through to the second round following his straight-set success against Frenchman Michael Llodra. The 27-year-old Spaniard dropped just six points on serve through 72 minutes. Verdasco completed the effort with nine consecutive games held without facing a break point.

    He is scheduled to meet qualifier Flavio Cipolla in the next round.

    World No. 95 Flavio Cipolla overcame a second-set lull to upset 8th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov. The Italian veteran secured five of 12 break points, through to a 6-1, 1-6, 6-0 victory in 95 minutes. Dolgopolov, who served at 44% for the day, ended the match with seven double faults.
