Fernando Verdasco moved into the round of 16 after downing veteran Michael Llodra in straight sets. Eighth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov failed to advance, having lost his first-round match to qualifier Flavio Cipolla.

World No. 23 Fernando Verdasco is through to the second round following his straight-set success against Frenchman Michael Llodra. The 27-year-old Spaniard dropped just six points on serve through 72 minutes. Verdasco completed the effort with nine consecutive games held without facing a break point.
He is scheduled to meet qualifier Flavio Cipolla in the next round.

World No. 95 Flavio Cipolla overcame a second-set lull to upset 8th seed Alexandr Dolgopolov. The Italian veteran secured five of 12 break points, through to a 6-1, 1-6, 6-0 victory in 95 minutes. Dolgopolov, who served at 44% for the day, ended the match with seven double faults.
