10/1/11 8:43 PM | Cheryl Murray
Andy Murray set up a final showdown with American Donald Young with his three-set ouster of No. 3 seed Gilles Simon.
Both men put on a good show in this semifinal match. France’s Gilles Simon was able to snag the middle set from the tournament top seed, but for most of the match, Murray was simply the better player.
As usual, the Scot’s return game was on point, but his down-the-line forehand was his most intimidating weapon in the match.
Murray’s serving in the first and third sets was good enough to hold off Simon completely. The Frenchman’s only break point chances came in the middle set, both of which he converted.
Though the world No. 4 dropped a set, he never seemed in danger of suffering an upset.
Murray will take on the red-hot American Donald Young in Sunday’s final.

Imperious is the word that comes to mind! But he still needs to beef up that 2nd serve.

If there was any doubt that Young's win over Murray earlier in the year was a blip, this is it. 6-1 6-0.

deuce, is that you in the stands with the I luv Murray t-shirt?

Murray on fire and Young running on an empty tank after his match against Monfils.

No competition there, a difference in class. Congrats to Murray, another title and another step nearer to the no.3 spot.
Off topic, why do Murray, Ferrer and Fish all go to Tokyo? Are they paying more appearance fees there? The Beijing field is a lot weaker in comparison, top seed being Monfils at no.8, and Tokyo has no.2, 4, 5 and 7? Beijing paying higher prize money too, 500k vs Tokyo's 295k. Good chances for Monfils, Tsonga, Berdych and Simon there to win the title and 500 points and big pay cheque.

Well done... congrats... ofc there was no doubt that poor Donald from the poll will be outclassed.
250 nearer to his rightful place ... No3 at the end of season.

nadline, yep, that woz me, lol.
Another one I've missed, just checked the score. Why does Andy play so well when I'm not watching, that's the question!
Anyway, well played Andy, grooving nicely for the Asian swing :)

deuce, maybe you've got the same vibes as Andy's nan. Apparently, he loses everytime she goes to watch him play live.
nadline , 10/2/11 4:17 PM
nadline, lol again..:) but his nan may have broken her duck and his, she's been at the last two Davis Cup ties in Glasgow. Certainly hope so!

Congratulations to Andy on the win! There was no doubt in my mind that he would win and do so with ease against Donald Young. Yes, that one loss was a fluke and won't happen again.
I don't think it would have mattered if Donald Young had an easier semifinal match. If Monfils had kept his head, he should have been in the final, but he still would have lost to Andy.
Well done and now it's on to Japan! Can't wait to see Rafa, too!
