No. 3 seed Gilles Simon will take to the court on Wednesday against Yen-Hsun Lu as the second round gets underway at the PTT Thailand Open.
Gilles Simon (3) vs. Yen-Hsun Lu
France’s Gilles Simon comes into Bangkok off a solid hard court season this summer. The Frenchman made the quarterfinals in Cincinnati, where he lost to Andy Murray and he had a round of 16 showing at the US Open, going out to John Isner.
Simon has a tidy 3-0 record over Yen-Hsun Lu of Taiwan. Lu is ranked 68 in the world; he’s had some success on the Challenger circuit coming into Bangkok, with a win in Ningbo, China just 2 weeks ago.
With Simon playing well and Lu slightly off his game on the pro tour, this should be a straight set victory for the Frenchman.
Robin Haase (7) vs. Jarkko Nieminen
This may be a tough match-up for Robin Haase. The Dutchman did not play particularly well in his opening round match against the Thai wildcard Kittipong Wachiramanowong. Haase’s money shot is his serve, which let him down in his opener.
He will need to serve better against Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen. The Finn is ranked just 8 spots below Haase at No. 50 in the world. Nieminen did not have a great hard court season. His best result was the third round, which he made in Washington and Winston-Salem.
Prediction – Nieminen has a good chance at taking out a seed.

you're right Ricky it was an excellent match. Lu made Simon work very hard for that win.

Hmm, Andy might win this now, as the most serious threat to him was, I think, Haase.
