Ernests Gulbis and American Donald Young will take to the court, as the PTT Thailand Open rolls into the second day of round 1 action.
Ernests Gulbis vs. Simone Bolelli
On paper, world No. 47 Ernests Gulbis should have no trouble getting past the Italian clay-courter Simone Bolelli, who is ranked 138 in the world. The speedy indoor surface benefits the Latvian’s game far more than Bolelli’s and the Italian has had a poor enough year that he’s spent much of his time on the Challenger circuit.
The problem is that Gulbis is a notoriously inconsistent player. His form veers wildly from impressive to dreadful with results that range from a series of first round losses to a win at the LA tournament. If he has one of his “good” days, he should win this fairly routinely.
Igor Andreev vs. Donald Young
American Donald Young is one of the big stories of the summer hard court swing. The American, who has long languished outside the top 100, found his way into the semifinals in Washington and the round of 16 at the US Open. Young is now ranked a career high 55 in the world and actually goes into this match against Igor Andreev as the favorite.
Russia’s Andreev is largely a clay courter. The one-time world No. 18 now sits at 100 in the world. He has the experience to beat Young, but the American has been enjoying the best form of his professional career.
Prediction – Young in straight sets.

Come On Donald!! Just settle down and get the job done. I hope his USO run has given him the confidence he needs to compete in these 250's.

good to see he can win on something other than US hard courts

Bolelli and Gulbis are both frustrating because they should have played so much better. The talent is there but the attitude isn't.Yet they are fun to watch when they decide to try.
