  • Haase, Dimitrov in first round action in Bangkok

    9/25/11 10:27 PM | Cheryl Murray
Haase, Dimitrov in first round action in Bangkok The autumn Asian swing gets under way on Monday as No. 7 seed Robin Haase and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov take the court at the PTT Thailand Open.

Robin Haase (7) vs. Kittipong Wachiramanowong

Dutch big hitter Robin Haase will make his 2011 Thailand Open debut against Thai wildcard Kittipong Wachiramanowong, ranked 516 in the world. Haase’s best result by far this season so far was the US Open tune-up event in Winston-Salem, NC. The Dutchman made the semifinals there losing in a tight 3-setter to France’s Julien Benneteau.

Wachiramanowong divides most of his time between the Challenger and Futures tour. Despite the support he will be sure to have from his hometown crowd, the Thai player would have to pull off a major upset to dispatch of the more experienced Haase.

Grigor Dimitrov vs. Ivan Dodig (5)

No. 5 seed Ivan Dodig of Croatia will take on young upstart Grigor Dimitrov. Neither player had a great summer hardcourt swing. Dodig had a third round showing in Montreal, but he went down in the first round at the US Open in 5 grueling sets to Nikolay Davydenko.

Dimitrov had similar results. He had a decent result in Winston-Salem, making the third round, but he went out in the first round of the US Open to Gael Monfils.

Prediction – Dodig for the win in 3.

Dimitrov is such an exciting player to watch. He played some fantastic tennis in beating Dodig. A couple of his running passing shots late in the second set were amazing.

agreed, Ricky. Thought Dodig would win this one.

That eighth of the draw is filled with guys from whom you have no idea what you will get on any given day:

Dodig, Dimitrov, Gulbis, and Super Bol
