A day after putting Switzerland back into the Davis Cup World Group, Stanislas Wawrinka has announced that he's no longer working with veteran Swedish coach Peter Lundgren.
The split marks the second time that Lundgren has parted company with a Swiss player. As coach to Roger Federer - and the man who introduced the then-teenager to heavy-metal rock - he also got the boot after the future No. 1 claimed the year-end Masters Cup title in Houston nearly a decade ago.
Wawrinka won the final rubber over Lleyton Hewitt in Sydney this week to assure his nation a return to the elite World Group from 2012, with the first matches set for early February.
Wawrinka, ranked 19th after standing in the Top 10 three and a half years ago, has worked with Lundgren since July, 2010.
Under the Swede, Wawrinka claimed a US Open quarter-final spot a year ago but only reached the Wimbledon second round while placing into the second week at Roland Garros after a January Australian Open quarter-final.
"He played a major role in my career and I am deeply grateful," Wawrinka wrote. "We have had a lot of success and fun working together, I can't thank him enough."
