Veteran David Nalbandian made a successful start to the Davis Cup semifinal, having held on to defeat Serbia’s Viktor Troicki in four sets. Troicki was a late replacement for World No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
David Nalbandian handed visiting nation Argentina a critical 1-0 edge, following his four-set victory over opponent Viktor Troicki. Troicki took over for US Open champion Novak Djokovic, who sat out the opening singles rubber with a back strain.
Nalbandian collected 50 winners and six service breaks, through to a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win in two hours and 52 minutes.
Compatriot Juan Martin Del Potro is slated to take on Janko Tipsarevic in the second singles rubber.
