US Open finalist Rafael Nadal will play the first rubber of the Davis Cup semifinal tie against Frenchman Richard Gasquet.
There is no rest for the weary for Rafael Nadal. The top Spaniard comes directly off the courts of the US Open to kick off Spain’s Davis Cup bid against France.
But despite possible jet-lag and a rapid-fire chance of surface, Nadal will go into this rubber in good shape. He has a formidable 9-0 record over Frenchman Richard Gasquet. The two men have been meeting on the court since 2004 and they’ve played on clay and hard courts...Nadal has only dropped 4 sets to the Frenchman.
Another massive benefit for Spain is that they are playing at home on Nadal’s preferred red clay. Gasquet has been playing much better in 2011 than he did last year. His ranking is up to No. 15 in the world, but he hasn’t been anywhere near Nadal’s level.
Prediction – Nadal to give Spain a 1-0 lead in straight sets.

Take heart Rafa fans - looks like he has not let the US Open loss dent his spirits too much and he is not going to fade away any time soon.
Rafael Nadal showed no signs of fatigue in beating France's Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-0, 6-1 in Cordoba on Friday to give Spain a 1-0 lead in its Davis Cup semi-final.
The 25-year-old Nadal, who finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the US Open on Monday, improved to a 17-1 record in Davis Cup singles rubbers with victory in just two hours and nine minutes.
Nadal hit 33 winners in total and committed just nine unforced errors in the 40-minute second set. He converted seven of 16 break point opportunities in a one-sided encounter.

Rafa looked every inch of the matador as he ran Gasquet around the bullring in Cordoba. He may be tired but he showed no mercy to Reeshard.

I doubt Simon will fare much better against Ferrer although I doubt the scoreline will be quite the humiliation Gasquet sufered.

Rafa played a fantastic match...It was a pleasure to watch him...I did notice that Rafa improved his game overall since the FO final and that became obvious today...he showed no mercy...I like Gasquet though...and I know Rafa and Gasquet are friends...but Rafa wanted to finish fast as he was tired from the USO final...great job, Rafa! VAMOS!!!

I am watching Rafa's DC match against Gasquet now on the tennis channel. Nice to see Rafa in such great form! This is the best thing for him after the disappointment of losing the USO. I know Rafa has said he is tired after the final, but he went out there and played some great tennis to get the job done quickly!
Well done, Rafa!
