Former world No. 4 Juan Martin Del Potro gave Argentina a commanding 2-0 lead in its tie against host nation Serbia. Del Potro defeated Janko Tipsarevic in the second singles rubber, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.
Following a successful effort from teammate David Nalbandian, world No. 17 Juan Martin Del Potro won a critical second singles rubber over Janko Tipsarevic. The 22-year-old passed through the match unbroken, having secured a straight-set victory in two hours and 31 minutes.
Del Potro broke at 5-5 in the first set, then followed with a service break at 2-1 in the second. He completed the final set with four aces and 13 winners.
Argentina will be looking to lock down the tie, as doubles pair Juan Ignacio Chela and Juan Monaco are set to face Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic on Saturday.

My top player by a nautical mile. Would be nice to see him at 100% again, maybe challenge Djokovic for a title or two. It all depends on his physical health though- if he could figure out a way to be healthy for an extended period of time, he'd do some damage.

Del Potro vs. a tired Djokovic could be titanic
obviously if Djokovic is close to 100 percent, it will be a rout
Serbia should still win

I thought Nole is not playing at all. He sited back injury and how can he now change his original statement and pretend to be healed within the day or two...it's ridiculous...anyway, he is not scheduled to play at all, but I guess the DC captain is allowed to make last minute changes...it will be very interesting if Serbian doubles team wins today...

So it's two one now... we shall see... tomorrow Novak will take Delpo in 3 sets...
and than everything is open...Tipsy against Nalby... we will see...

@natashao, why that tone regarding Novak back problems? Wasn't Rafa the guy who was known for going as far as possible, playing his DC matches with injury? Last minutes changes are traditional tactic for DC matches.
I would be worried if he didn't show at least on one game, as that might be much more serious problem.

What a ?dope? this patriotism is...
atg, I think it is taxing on their body to have to play if they have any kind of injury...Honestly, I don't think Novak's injury is serious and it can go away easily but it can also get worse if he is forced to play tomorrow. And now, he is FORCED to play. I know that he will go beyond limits just to win for Serbia. Serbian team expected Troicki would beat Nalby, but Troicki played a lousy match and Nalby was great. Now, Nole has to do the job for them...
The same goes for Rafa...he is wasted: physically and mentally...and he must play tomorrow...he is playing Tsonga...it isn't going to be easy even on clay...Tsonga is full of confidence...as much as we all are grateful to be able to watch these great matches tomorrow, I somehow feel sorry for these two guys...all they needed was some rest...
and I must also include Fed in the equation...he is there fighting for those wins but what for? Unlike Nole and Rafa, Fed has nobody to do the job except Waw...and Waw seems to forget how to play tennis at the moment...Fed plays three days in a row...and even if they qualify, next year if Fed is not there to do all the job they will be kicked out early...Fed is 30 years old and asking from him to take the lead on the team that stands no chance without him is really pointless...
Patriotism must be the answer for all three of these great champions...

Delpo! I like to see him back to his best, that will make things more interesting for next year.
