A still-healing Lleyton Hewitt looks no further than this weekend's tie against Switzerland as he continues his comeback efforts.
Optimist Lleyton Hewitt heads into the Davis Cup weekend tie against Switzerland at the Royal Sydney Golf Club on grass and Roger Federer with big plans for his 2012 season after missing much of 2011 due to foot spring surgery which has yet to be ruled a complete success
The 30-year-old just wants to get through this key weekend in hopes of returning the one-time tennis power to the elite World Group after a four-year absence. But the former US Open and Wimbledon winner a decade ago is making no promises about his own plans until January.
"I won't bet a lot on me playing anything after this," said the No. 199 who missed the US open due to his toe problem.
"Right at the moment, Davis Cup is my year ahead," he told local media in Sydney. "I'm just focusing on getting through this tie. I'll be playing (next season) for sure, week in week out. But I'll do what's best for my body after this one."
Hewitt has managed only 18 singles matches in 2011, splitting them between losses and wins. He plays Stanislas Wawrinka in opening singles and should face Federer in reverse singles in a repeat of a Davis Cup five-set classic which he won in Melbourne in the 2002 semis.
