Eighth seed Mardy Fish made a strong start to the tournament, having downed Tobias Kamke in the first round, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1. The 29-year-old veteran struck 28 winners through 103 minutes of play. He is bidding for his 38th win of the season.
Qualifier Malek Jaziri took out Thiemo de Bakker in the first round. After dropping the first set, the 27-year-old rallied to win the match in four, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. He looks to win his 6th career main-draw contest.
Prediction: Fish in straight sets.
(11) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs. (Q) Sergei Bubka
Eleventh seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga leads qualifier Sergei Bubka 1-0 in the series, having snagged their only meeting earlier this year in Doha.
Tsonga came through his first-round match with Yen-Hsun Lu in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. The Frenchman tallied 39 winners through two hours and 9 minutes. He remains on course to win his 35th match this season.
World No. 207 Sergei Bubka defeated Andreas Haider-Maurer in the first round, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. The 24-year-old Ukranian will attempt to his fourth main-draw victory on Thursday.
Prediction: Tsonga in three sets.
