Andy Murray is playing his way through an up-and-down campaign and he hopes he will be on the way back up in Cincinnati. Murray is in a section of the draw that also includes David Ferrer, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and Gilles Simon.
Andy Murray will be hoping to rebound from a second-round loss at the Rogers Cup when he takes the court this week in Cincinnati. A former champion (2008) and No. 4 seed in Cincinnati, Murray finds himself in a brutal section of the draw.
All four seeds have advanced to the second round; David Ferrer got a bye along with Murray, while Jo-Wilfried Tsonga dismissed Marin Cilic and Gilles Simon outlasted Jurgen Melzer. Ferrer and Simon are on the same half of the bracket's third section, while Murray and Tsonga are on a collision course for the third round.
Murray, though, will bot be looking past his opener. Up first for the fourth-ranked Scot is David Nalbandian, who rolled over Kei Nishikori on Monday. A showdown between Murray and Tsonga is likely, but the Frenchman will also have to get past Alex Bogomolov on Wednesday.
Ferrer, meanwhile, is making his way back from injury. The fifth-seeded Spaniard is set to begin his Cincinnati campaign against up-and-coming Grigor Dimitrov. The winner of that clash will go up against either Simon or Montreal semifinalist Janko Tipsarevic in the third round.
