  • Murray draws dangerous section in Montreal

    8/8/11 2:26 AM | Cheryl Murray
Murray draws dangerous section in Montreal No. 4 seed Andy Murray lands, as he usually does, in Rafael Nadal’s half of the draw, but even in his own quarter, the Scot has plenty of challenges, with all of the 2011 US Open Series title-holders in his section.

The other top seed in Murray’s section is Mardy Fish, which is perhaps a stroke of good fortune for the Brit. Fish was forced to pull out of Washington after winning the Atlanta tournament and making the final in LA. Fish could be a factor, but only if he’s fully healed from his heel injury.

Unfortunately for Murray, he also landed LA winner Ernests Gulbis, who defeated Juan Martin Del Potro on his way to the title and David Nalbandian, who can be devastating on hard courts when he’s on form. Also lurking is Radek Stepanek, who just won the title in Washington on Sunday or else the big-serving Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.

Murray has often played well in Montreal. Even if he is pushed, which he may be, he should get through his quarter of the draw.

Hooray! Tennis back! Good luck, Andy! Make it three in a row!

Gulbis so rarely strings a series of wins together it's unlikely lightening will strike twice in one season ;-)

dangerous section for Murray? Nothing dangerous about his section it is a masters toerney.
Djoker has a pretty dangerous section if you might have noticed. Fed and Murray have almost identical draws strength wise. Albeit Fed is more difficult because of the Djokovic challenge.
And Nadal has the most easiest draw for the top contenders, there can be no argueing about that this time.

It would be really, really nice to be able to see the full draw on this site!!! And also to have this week's ranking table as soon as it is published - or is that being greedy?

BTW. The USO still doesn't get a mention in the ATP Calendar :-(

Here is the new rankings points for the top 4 players, Djoker is only 1090 points ahead of Rafa.

1 Djokovic, Novak (SRB)........ 12,860
2 Nadal, Rafael (ESP) ........... 11,770
3 Federer, Roger (SUI).......... 9,710
4 Murray, Andy (GBR)........... 6,705

Ed, the USO is on the ATP calender or you can look under Tournaments Profile.

The ITF runs the Grand Slams, so the ATP is FAR less inclined to promote them, even though the Slams are what drives business.

Ed - I'm going to put in a request to have those functionalities added. Thanks for the suggestion!

Cheryl: Really. You cant be SERIOUS. Is that the reason :-D

Still there has been some progress today. I noticed the drawsheet being updated as matches were completed (that doesnt happen often) and the new rankings popped up only a few hours late instead of anything up to several days in arrears.

Nadline: Thanks. I know the info is to be found elsewhere but it doesn't make sense to have to jump backwards and forwards to other sites to keep up to date. it bugs me the 'back office' for TT has so little interest in keeping the data up to date. After all it's not exactly rocket science.

I see there has been a three line whip on which way to vote in the current poll.

nadline,

Thanks so much for putting up the rankings numbers! I knew that Rafa's 500 points from Barcelona were supposed to kick in now and was anxious to see where he stands.

You are always on it! :)

What's so `dangerous` about Stepanek to M Bear?
The term `pigeon`springs to mind.
Andy should at least get to the semis on this (if he behaves) and quite possibly make it a triptych.

murray will take this very easily..he already revealed the signs..i.e. carb cut-down ;)

raghav , 8/9/11 7:24 PM

raghav, I do hope you are right! ed, being fairly new to this site I was dissappointed when I accessed the drawsheet and found Id have to jump back and forth but hopefully its being sorted out.

OMG! i was wrong AGAIN! murray out in 2 sets :-( is he depressed or something? if gluten-free diet "helped" nole, why did it destroy murray?

2 questions:
1. was the no-carb diet a great factor in nole's 2011 rise to no. 1 (as attributed to by him and everybody else)?
2. why did murray lose so early after taking on the same diet...

hmmm..it seems that murray (and everyone of us) was made to believe that the diet really enhances performance in tennis just as what happened to djokovic.

nole, please educate us :D
