Last week's ranking breakthrough has fired up teenaged Ryan Harrison as the 19-year-old looks to fill in the talent gap in US tennis with the Andy Roddick generation of players nearing age 30 and beginning a slow fade from the scene.
The scrappy Harrison showed his fighting qualities with a pair of comebacks in three-sets last week in Atlanta, with his eventual semi-final placing assuring his of his current 94th ranking.
Now the hot-handed player is ready to take it a a step further as he plays on a special exempt entry this week in Los Angeles.
Harrison staged another fight-back for a place in the second round at UCLA, overcoming Richard Berankis. "I was four points from being out of there. To get through one of those matches early in the tournament, it's like a kick-start."
Harrison is keen to keep up his momentum now that his career is on an upward trend. "I got to 101 after Wimbledon., and I finally got through last week. To break that barrier is obviously the first of many goals I want to achieve."

Not Fish, but the rest of them are. Can't deny that Roddick is not the player he once was.

of course Roddick is. This said the entire generation. The entire generation is Roddick, Fish, and Blake. That means only two-thirds of the generation is fading. The other one-third is gaining steam.
