Life as a laid-back surfie now has much more appeal for former Wimbledon and US Open finalist Mark Philippoussis, with the party-boy Aussie admitting that his one-time dream of a return to the ATP tennis wars is no longer an option.
The 34-year-old, who ran through fast cars and actress-model girlfriends during his prime a decade ago faster than he broke racquet strings, is now satisfied to surf in southern California and pick up a cheque from the occasional senior tour appearance.
He's playing summer Team Tennis for the Boston team, and told the Herald newspaper: "I don’t really have any interest in returning to ATP. I’d love to play some events. I’m very interested in playing some events, but I’m very happy playing senior events.
"I’m having a lot of fun. It’s a great group of guys. It’s laid back. It’s got a great vibe, and I’m just really enjoying doing that. I’m not really into the traveling. I’ve done so much of it over the years. I’m not really happy traveling."
Earlier in the year, Australian media said that Philippoussis, veteran of six knee operations, was again considering a comeback to the professional circuit he basically left in 2006.
