Kavcic ousts Benneteau at Swedish Open Blaz Kavcic outlasts Julien Benneteau in three sets on Tuesday in Bastad. Kavcic is joined in the second round by Diego Junqueira, who took out Igor Andreev.

    Blaz Kavcic d. Julien Benneteau 6-4, 4-6, 7-5

Kavcic lost all of his early momentum but recovered to outlast Benneteau on Tuesday afternoon, reaching the second round of the SkiStar Swedish Open after two hours and 53 minutes. The Slovak struck for a break in the 10th game of the match to finish off the first set in style, but it was hardly smooth sailing the rest of the way.

Benneteau got back on track with a break at 3-3 in the second and the Frenchman forced a third with a clutch hold at 5-4. Having gained the upper hand, Benneteau also raced to a 5-3 lead in the decider. Kavcic, however, took the last four games of the match--breaking serve at both 4-5 and at 6-5 to win it. Next up for the world No. 79 is either Juan Monaco or Carlos Berlocq.

    (Q) Diego Junqueira d. Igor Andreev 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-4

Junqueira had already enjoyed a strong week by qualifying for the Bastad main draw, and he built on it with his first ATP match win of the season by upsetting Andreev in two hours and 20 minutes. The Argentine came out playing with confidence and he took a tense first set by winning the tiebreaker seven points to three.

Andreev seemed to gain control by rolling through the second with multiple service breaks. The 75th-ranked Russian fought off both of the break points he faced and used his third break of the day at 5-3 to force a third. The back-and-forth affair, however, tipped back in Junqueira's favor and the underdog broke twice in the decider before serving out the proceedings at 5-4. The world No. 101 will meet top-seeded Robin Soderling for a spot in the quarterfinals.
