The abrupt split between coach Roger Rasheed and seventh-ranked Frenchman Gael Monfls could be the precursor of a possible link between the Australian and the world No. 4 Andy Murray.
Rasheed, who worked with Lleyton Hewitt half a decade, announced on Twitter that he and Monfils were no longer a team. "After 3 years Gael & I believe it is the right time to part company, I enjoyed the challenge and wish Gael the best moving forward," Rasheed Tweeted from Australia.
The news came out a day after Monfils won his Davis Cup quarter-final opening singles match over German Philipp Kohnschreiber at the tie in Stuttgart, leading the way for a French weekend victory
Speculation in Britain is rife that Rasheed would be the perfect fit for Murray. The Times of London, which has close ties with Rasheed, speculated that Murray and Rasheed could team up imminently.
Monfils joins compatriot Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in being temporarily coach-less. Murray has been without a mentor for a year since splitting with fellow Scot Miles Maclagen.
