Top seed John Isner and last year’s finalist Olivier Rochus advance to the title match on Sunday.
John Isner def. Tobias Kamke 7-5, 7-6(4)
American John Isner moved into the finals at the Tennis Hall of Fame with a straight-sets victory over Germany’s Tobias Kamke. Despite being ranked 50 spots higher than Kamke at No. 46, Isner’s victory was not as easy as it could have been. The American served well. He hit 12 aces and fought off the only break point Kamke earned in the match.
Still, Kamke was able to take advantage of Isner’s relatively weak return game. The German staved off 5 of 6 break points. Isner’s single break of serve came at the tail end of the first set and he was unable to secure another. The better server won out in the tiebreaker, with Isner winning in straight sets.
Olivier Rochus def. Michael Yani 6-2, 6-4
American qualifier Michael Yani was able to gain little purchase in his semifinal against Beligian veteran Olivier Rochus. Yani is ranked 361 in the world, a far cry from Rochus’s own No. 74 ranking. The American never had a chance at challenging Rochus in this match. The Belgian never faced a single break point, secured 3 service breaks against Yani and secured victory easily in an hour and 13 minutes.
Rochus and Isner will square off in the finals on Sunday.
