Last year’s finalist France is through to the Davis Cup semifinal, after taking out host nation Germany over the weekend. The 2010 runner-up completed the tie at four points to one.
France sealed the tie over Germany on Saturday, as Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and veteran Michael Llodra earned point number three in doubles. The pair put together a solid performance, having ousted the German duo of Christopher Kas and Philipp Petzscher, 7-6(4), 6-4, 6-4.
France had led 2-0 entering into the doubles match, following successful singles efforts from Gael Monfils and Richard Gasquet. Gasquet trailed opponent Florian Mayer by two sets, but battled back to take the match in five, 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-3.
Petzschner helped Germany avoid a sweep with a victory over Llodra. Tsonga closed the tie with a two tie-break tie win against Philipp Kohlschreiber.
France is slated to take on either the United States or Spain in September.
