Viktor Troicki and Novak Djokovic will contest Davis Cup singles rubbers for Serbia on Friday. They are going on the road to face Sweden's Michael Ryderstedt and Ervin Eleskovic, respectively.
Viktor Troicki vs. Michael Ryderstedt
Troicki's career has been overshadowed by that of Novak Djokovic, but Djokovic is not the only on-fire Serb heading into this weekend's Davis Cup tie in Sweden. Troicki, who won the cup-clinching match last season over Michael Llodra, has maintained the momentum from last year's team triumph just like Djokovic. He is 28-15 for his 2011 campaign and is up to No. 16 in the world.
The opening rubber of this quarterfinal clash features Troicki and Ryderstedt, who comes in at No. 297 in the world. The unheralded Swede has not played at the ATP level this year and has a 6-9 record for his career. Ryderstedt is at least playing with home-court advantage, but it will be hard for him to press a heavily-favored opponent. Look for Troicki to prevail in straight sets.
Novak Djokovic vs. Ervin Eleskovic
With Djokovic in this kind of form, the only way Sweden could remotely challenge him is with Robin Soderling. However, Soderling is out for this weekend's tie and the second singles spot goes to Eleskovic, ranked 355th in the world. Eleskovic also has not appeared at the ATP level in 2011 and he is 2-8 for his career.
Djokovic, of course, is coming off his first Wimbledon title and he has only lost one match this entire season--to Roger Federer at the French Open. The newly-crowned world No. 1 did not drop a single rubber in Davis Cup action last year and it will be another routine day at the office for him on Friday. Count on Djokovic giving the defending champs a 2-0 advantage.

I think it's just an excuse for him not to play. ;)

I saw Nole and the rest of the team on the Serbian TV this morning where they were showing them training for the DC and mainly having a lots of fun...do not worry about Nole..they are just letting him free since Serbs are going to win this one easily even without him...They just decided to give Nole well deserved rest...:)

^^ I hope so :) still, it seems weird that only 40 minutes earlier they decided he needed rest..

Very wise move from Nole's team. He should not be needed. Maybe he was serious when hesaid he thought Soderling would change his mind and play and wanted to be there just in case he did.

Oops, just noticing this thread. I shouldve posted this here.
According to the Davis Cup website:
"Chances of a win on Friday for the Swedes increased only very slightly with the withdrawal of world No. 1 Novak Djokovic from the second singles rubber. Due to face No. 355 Eleskovic, Djokovic had to pull out 40 minutes before the start of the tie because of a problem with his left knee and is replaced by Janko Tipsarevic."
:( Hope he's alright? He hasn't played a single match this year without that bandage around his knee.
