Finalist France took a 2-0 advantage over host nation Germany, following singles rubber successes by Gael Monfils and Richard Gasquet, who rallied from two sets down to defeat Florian Mayer.

World No. 11 Richard Gasquet dug his way out of a 0-2 set deficit to five France a critical first point. The 25-year-old fell behind two sets, then came back to take the next three via six breaks of serve. Gasquet tallied 52 winners during the three-hour, 32-minute match.
Gael Monfils def. Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6(3), 7-6(3), 6-4
World No. 7 Gael Monfils gave France a 2-0 lead, following his straight-set ousting of Philipp Kohlschreiber late Friday. The 24-year-old won the first two sets in tie-breaks, then earned a key service break at 2-2 in the third. He completed the effort with 15 aces, 45 winners and three breaks through three hours and 2 minutes.
Play will continue on Saturday with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and veteran Michael Llodra taking on Christopher Kas and Philipp Petzschner in doubles.
