The Atlanta ATP event later this month is stacking up as a comeback ground for ex-greats, with former hip surgery patients Tommy Haas and Lleyton Hewitt both in the mix.
In addition, recently injured Canadian Milos Raonic, who hurt his hip at Wimbledon, is also due to play.
Haas is only starting a comeback after losing matches in his first three events, the French Open, Halle and Wimbledon. The 33-year-old who once stood second in the world, has done one better this week on grass in Newport.
But his Atlanta return will be his first time on a hardcourt in nearly 18 months. Hewitt, who stood No. 1 a decade ago and holds a pair of Grand Sam titles, has undergone two hip surgeries. But his latest round of medical history involves a spring operation on his foot.
After losing in the Wimbledon second round as fifth-seeded opponent Robin Soderling rallied from two sets to love down, Hewitt now stands 174th on the ATP and will be scraping for entries.
He's hoping to use the wild cards he will inevitably accumulate this summer to try and lift his numbers for a shot at a US Open entry.
Haas holds 12 ATP singles titles going back to 1999.
