Host nation Argentina built a critical 2-0 advantage over Kazakhstan on Thursday, as teammates Juan Monaco and Juan Martin Del Potro won their singles rubbers. The countrymen both prevailed in straight sets.

World No. 43 Juan Monaco put Argentina ahead 1-0, having upended Andrey Golubev in straight sets early Thursday. The 27-year-old held 100% of his service games through two hours and 1 minute of play. Monaco completed his effort with 16 winners and five of 10 break points converted. A shaky Golubev tallied a costly 72 unforced errors through three sets.
Juan Martin Del Potro def. Mikhail Kukushkin 6-2, 6-1, 6-2
Former World No. 4 Juan Martin Del Potro made a successful return to Davis Cup, with a straight-set ousting of Mikhail Kukushkin. The 22-year-old took the first two sets quickly, then built a 3-0 advantage in the third. He ended the evening with 6 aces, 37 winners and 8 breaks of serve.
Competition is slated to resume on Friday, when Juan Ignacio Chela and Eduardo Schwank take on Evgeny Korolev and Yuriy Schukin in doubles.
