No. 2 seed Grigor Dimitrov opened successfully at the Campbell’s Tennis Hall of Fame Championships.
Grigor Dimitrov def. Brian Dabul 6-2, 6-4
Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov successfully dispatched Argentina’s Brian Dabul in easy straight sets even while serving at a scant 50% for the match. Dabul was broken three times in just over an hour to give the No. 2 seed a berth in the second round. He will await the winner of Denis Kudla and the big-serving Croat Ivo Karlovic.
Donald Young def. Paul Capdeville 6-2, 6-1
American Donald Young sent another South American packing from Newport. Chilean Paul Capedville went down to the world No. 113 without much resistance. Young won this first round encounter in just 52 minutes, losing just 37 points total out of 105 played. Young, who was once touted as the next thing in American tennis has struggled on the main tour, spending most of his time either on the Challenger circuit or else attempting to qualify for ATP level tournaments.
