John McEnroe has again jumped in with unsolicited advice for current player from his podium spot as a BBC Wimbledon sage.
The one-time bad-boy of tennis is telling Andy Murray that he now needs to get even more angry with his opponents if he's to claw his way to big-match victories.
Mac has long thought that today's generation is much too civil to their rivals. he's prefer a bit of hatred.
Having failed to convince the well-mannered pair of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to get down and dirty when they face off, Mac is trying to sell some attitude to Murray. "He's got to find a way to get under their skin," said the three time Wimbledon champion who cut the template for tennis bad behavior three decades ago along with hated rival Jimmy Connros.
"It should be part of his game, instead of saying 'We are great friends and everything is wonderful'. When I played Jimmy Connors, clearly we didn't take a liking to each other and that spurred us on to higher levels in those matches."
Murray is not exactly an angel on court, well-known until only recently for releasing strings of obscenities - seemingly directed at those in his player box - during the heat of battle.
With three Grand Slam finals lost, there seems to be plenty of animosity. But Murray seems to be on a charm offensive, perhaps helping to re-mould his image.
He does admit to perhaps warming to Mac's words. "Everyone would enjoy it a little more if the players were a bit more vocal about any dislike we might have for each other. But at the same time tennis is in a really good place right now."

Mac just wants more to talk about. He loves the drama. If the players get nasty with each other then he can get nasty in the commie box, and as far as John's concerned that's what sells stories. Personally, I think you can scream and yell all you want, but if you can't play tennis your not gonna win.

Yeah -- wasn't he telling Rafa the other day that he needed more ego?
JMac, I really like you -- but *they* don't need to do anything.
*You*, however, need to sit down and be quiet.

Whole tour needs to get nasty... Tennis court should be in Octagon shape with Ultimate Fight nets... But WWE rules should apply preventing real fight and injuries between players and restrict it to yelling and jumping like in old Mac days ;)
