  • Djokovic thinks Soderling might change his mind on Davis Cup

    6/29/11 2:02 PM | Johan Lindahl
Djokovic thinks Soderling might change his mind on Davis Cup Novak Djokovic has re-affirmed his presence for next week's Davis Cup away in Sweden.

But the Serb who led his nation to a first title at the worldwide team event last December added that he would not be surprised if Swede Robin Soderling reverses his own decision not to play for the hosts.

"I'll play Davis Cup, I"m in the team," said Wimbledon quarter-finalist Djokovic. "I've heard that Robin has pulled out (to rest). Regardless if he's playing or not, we will come as the strongest team, the team that has won the Davis Cup title last year.

"But I wouldn't be surprised if Robin still plays on that match. But we are not looking at their squad. We are just trying to be the best squad we can."

Rafael Nadal will vote with his feet and miss the quarter-final with the US in Texas, leaving the job to his "substitutes" headed by David Ferrer, Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez.

The US will go with the usual team of Andy Roddick, Wimbledon wonder Mardy Fish and the Bryan brothers in doubles. In European zonal rounds, Roger Federer will front up for Switzerland in Berne against Portugal.

This article is silly. What does "will vote with his feet" even mean. And how many Spaniards does it take to replace Rafa. His substitutes indeed. His substitutes are world class tennis players, with both Fernando and David spending a good deal of time in the top ten. I sure hope the US doesn't adopt your attitude because DC will not be a cake-walk for Roddick, et al.
