Fernando Verdasco, who overcame Radek Stepanek in a five-set thriller on Tuesday fell in his second round match to Robin Haase.
The top quarter of the men’s draw lost a pair of seeds on Wednesday. Fernando Verdasco lost to Dutchman Robin Haase in 4 sets, while Milos Raonic took a tumble on the lawns and injured his leg 5 games into his match against Gilles Muller.
Verdasco appeared every bit as tired as his previous round 5-setter would suggest. He managed to snag the third set out from under Haase, but overall the Spaniard’s performance was lacking. Verdasco helped Haase along with a shocking 11 double faults.
The one bright spot came for the Spaniard in the third set when he managed to break Haase’s serve while fighting off 4 break points of his own.
His moment did not last long, however. Haase came right back in the fourth set to break Verdasco in his first service game. The Spaniard’s game imploded from that point and Haase chalks up the upset victory.
The winner of Juan Martin Del Potro and Olivier Rochus has still yet to be decided. Belgium’s Rochus was up a set on Del Potro when play was suspended for the day.
