No matter what the obstacle, Aussie battler Lleyton Hewitt only knows how to give 100 percent even while carrying the injury which forced him to quit at mid-match last week in his grass-court tuneup for Wimbledon.
The former No. 1 who won Wimbledon in 2002, got through in to the second round as his damaged foot continued to give problems. Hewitt beat Japan's Kei Nishikori and next faces fifth seed Robin Soderling.
The Australian is just trying to ignore ignore his painful problem, not always an easy job. "It's always in the back of your mind. That's the hardest thing about a Grand Slam is trying to get it out of your mind as much as possible and concentrate on what I've got to actually do out there on the court."
Hewitt has never been forthcoming about injuries and this one is no exception. He called it "good."
But he added: "It's been rough, sort of been a day to day thing really. You know the whole time that it's not just gonna magically disappear overnight. That's the hard thing, you wake up, it's pretty sore. I just try and block it out as much as possible and still get on with practice."
