    (8) Andy Roddick def. (Q) Andreas Beck 6-4, 7-6(6), 6-3

Eighth seed Andy Roddick advanced to round two with a straight-set victory against Germany’s Andreas Beck early Tuesday. After taking the opening set, the American trailed during the second-set tie-break. A settled Roddick regained the advantage to close at 8-6. He went on to break twice in the third, then closed the match in two hours and 15 minutes.

"(The tie-break) was a big difference between two-sets-to-love and one-set-all. I felt like I was serving well. I felt like I was playing better than him. Last thing I wanted was to feel that way and be even. That was a big breaker for me," Roddick explained.

Roddick completed his effort with 30 aces and 42 winners. He is slated to meet Victor Hanescu in the second round.

    Ivan Ljubicic def. (27) Marin Cilic 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

Veteran Ivan Ljubicic reached the second round, following his four-set upset of compatriot Marin Cilic. After splitting the first two sets, Ljubicic saved seven of 8 break points through sets three and four. The 31-year-old struck 21 aces, en route to a first-round success in two hours and 45 minutes of play.

He will take on Sergiy Stakhovsky for a place in the third round.

What a day!!!!!!!!! Almost all of my favorites won today. Big ups to Roger of course, Roddick, Ivan, Ryan Harrison (the lucky loser!), Isner came through, Soderling pulled it out, Fernando Gonzalez with the upset, Hewitt and Dimitrov is leading 2-0. :)))))

It's good to see the Americans playing well. I think Ryan Harrison will be the next US hope. I watched Mardy's interview last night on TC and he was very respectful towards his buddy Roddick. Mardy also seems to be enjoying his spot as the No. 1 American. Good for him.
