World No. 70 Dmitry Tursunov took home the championship title at s-Hertogenbosch, following his straight-set success against fourth seed Ivan Dodig. The Russian came through the match comfortably, 6-3, 6-2.
Former World No. 20 Dmitry Tursunov won his first ATP World Tour title since 2009, having upset fourth seed Ivan Dodig on Saturday. The 28-year-old Russian, who won his second grass-court title, defeated the Croatian in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Tursunov held nine consecutive service games, through to a championship victory in an hour and 16 minutes.
"I’ve had a lot of good results this year, but not on the ATP (World Tour)," Tursunov said. "The start of the year was horrendous for me, in Australia I didn’t do very well and I definitely didn’t expect myself to be doing the way I’m doing right now. After being in tennis a long time now, I understand one week can be terrible and one week can be great. I happened to do all the right things at the right moments this week and I won."
Dodig earned three chances to break during the match, but was unable to convert any of the points. He completed the match with 44% of his second-service points won.
"It was tough today. We started and then we stopped," explained the runner-up. "I think in the second set, until the rain started, I was finding my game. But in the end, he was much better today on the court and he deserved to win. I was really enjoying it here, this tournament, and I'm very happy with the results."
Dodig was bidding for his second title of the season, after scoring a first at the PBZ Zagreb Indoors last February.
Both players are scheduled to move on to London, where they will continue their grass-court effort at Wimbledon.
