No. 3 seed Janko Tipsarevic upended Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets to advance to the AEGON International semifinal.
Janko Tipsarevic def. Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 7-6(2)
With rain marring play in London this week, Janko Tipsarevic was forced to put in double duty on Thursday, first with a second round win over Mikhail Kukushkin in the second round and again over Grigor Dimitrov in the quarters. The Serb’s service form dipped a bit against Bulgaria’s Dimitrov, but even though he was broken 3 times, he managed to break Dimitrov 5 times.
The win sends Tipsarevic into the semifinals against Japan’s Kei Nishikori.
Kei Nishikori def. Radek Stepanek 6-2, 6-3
Japan’s Kei Nishikori played impressively well on big points in his quarterfinal win over Radek Stepanek. Like Tipsarevic, Nishikori put in double duty on Thursday. The Japanese man defeated Rainer Schuettler in a three-set battle in the second round before coming back several hours later to take out Radek Stepanek in straight sets.
Nishikori faced down 11 break points, staving off all but 2 of them. Stepanek for his part couldn’t seem to hold onto his own serve. The Czech man was broken 5 times in the brief 2-set match.
