  • Roddick destroys Verdasco, Murray gets a free pass to the semis

    6/10/11 7:16 PM | Cheryl Murray
Roddick destroys Verdasco, Murray gets a free pass to the semis With rain marring play at Queen’s Club, Andy Murray got the day off. Murray’s quarterfinal opponent Marin Cilic withdrew from their match with an injury.

Andy Roddick def. Fernando Verdasco 6-2, 6-2

American Andy Roddick dismissed Fernando Verdasco of Spain in convincing fashion and in between rain showers. Verdasco was not at the top of his game. The Spaniard seemed to miss the tramlines by a considerable margin on even the most routine of groundstrokes. It was a testament to Verdasco’s level that he managed just 4 games with Roddick serving only 3 aces for the match.

Roddick converted a pair of breaks in each set in a match that lasted just over an hour. The win sets up a semifinal blockbuster against rival Andy Murray.

Andy Murray def. Marin Cilic w/o

Andy Murray didn’t even need to step foot on the Queen’s Club lawns to advance to the semifinals. The Scot went through automatically when Croat opponent Marin Cilic withdrew with a knee injury. The injury means that Murray will have only played a pair of matches prior to his semifinal showdown with Andy Roddick.
