6/9/11 4:49 AM | Cheryl Murray
American Andy Roddick and No. 2 seed Andy Murray will be in action as the entire men’s field takes the court on Thursday.
Andy Roddick vs. Kevin Anderson
Andy Roddick will face a second big-hitter in a row in London. The American took out Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in a hard-fought second round match that the American finally won in 3 sets. Roddick’s next opponent is South Africa’s Kevin Anderson.
Anderson is ranked 39 in the world and he took a set off Roddick this year in Brisbane. The South African has a monstrous first serve just as Roddick does. Anderson might have a shot at taking another set. Roddick spent most of the clay court season resting up for grass and may still need to shake off some rust. The American should have enough in the end to get the win though.
Andy Murray vs. Janko Tipsarevic
Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia is ranked No. 31 in the world, a far cry from Murray’s perch in the top 4. The Serb seems to be a match-up problem for Murray, however. The two men have met on 6 occasions, splitting the wins at 3 each. Tipsarevic won their last encounter in Dubai in 2010.
Murray will have the full support of the English crowd, but the Scot showed some signs on Wednesday that he has not yet completely transitioned from clay to grass. Murray dropped a set to Xavier Malisse before pulling the match out in three.
Prediction – Murray should get the win, but it could be a struggle.
