Rafael Nadal once again gets no rest as he makes the quick transition from clay courts to grass. The French Open champion headlines a top half of the Queen's Club bracket that also features Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Juan Martin Del Potro.
Rafael Nadal has pulled off the French Open-Queen's Club double once before, and he will look to do it again this week in London. Nadal, who beat Roger Federer on Sunday to capture his sixth title at Roland Garros, is getting right back on the court for the AEGON Championships.
The top-ranked Spaniard should have a routine time of things in an opener against Australian qualifier Matthew Ebden, but it could get tricky for him after that. Familiar foe Ivan Ljubicic, who beat Nadal last year in Indian Wells and can shorten points on grass courts, would meet Nadal in round three if both men advance on Wednesday. Potential quarterfinal opponents for the top seed are Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Michael Llodra.
Juan Martin Del Potro headlines the other section of the top half, but he will hard-pressed to reach the semis. The 6'6'' Argentine opened with a straight-set victory over Denis Istomin, but he could be bothered by a slight thigh injury. Del Potro will go up against Igor Kunitysn before a possible third-round date with Gilles Simon.
Defending champion Sam Querrey could be a factor this time around, as well. The big-serving American capitalized on Nadal's loss to Feliciano Lopez early in the 2010 event and went on to win the title. He has already taken out Kei Nishikori and Rainer Schuettler and now faces surprising third-round entrant James Ward, who stunned Stanislas Wawrinka.
Nadal is 11-3 lifetime at Queen's Club and he triumphed in 2008 by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.
