2010 Queen’s Club semifinalist Feliciano Lopez got off to a winning start on Monday at the first grass court tournament of the season.
Feliciano Lopez def. Dmitry Tursunov 7-6(4), 6-3
The struggles that Feliciano Lopez has on clay seem to evaporate on the grass of the Queen’s Club. The Spaniard has the sort of serve that works to its full advantage on the London grass. He served beautifully against the big-hitting Tursunov. The Russian had plenty of chances in the opening set to take the opening set. He had set points on Lopez’s serve, but when he failed to convert, he lost his focus on his own serve, throwing in a double fault and eventually getting broken. The Russian had more chances in the tiebreak and likewise failed to execute.
Lopez was far more dominant in the second set, sealing up the win with a single service break. Lopez takes on No. 3 seed Andy Roddick in a second round thriller.
Thomaz Bellucci def. Grigor Dimitrov 3-6, 7-6(8), 6-2
Brazilian clay-courter Thomaz Bellucci secured a tough 3-set win over Bulgarian youngster Grigor Dimitrov after going down a set. The two men engaged in a vicious battle in the second set. Dimitrov battled back from 3-6 down in the tiebreaker to get back to 7-6, but Bellucci kept his head and eventually snagged the set.
After the loss of the second set, Dimitrov lost his way. Bellucci secured a pair of service breaks to move into the second round.
