  • Del Potro, Tsonga kick off Queen's Club campaigns

    6/7/11 4:53 AM | Ricky Dimon
Del Potro, Tsonga kick off Queen's Club campaigns Juan Martin Del Potro and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will begin their grass-court seasons on a jam-packed Tuesday at Queen's Club. They are set for respective meetings with Denis Istomin and Michael Berrer.

    (12) Juan Martin Del Potro vs. Denis Istomin

Del Potro's 2011 comeback will continue when he takes the court at the AEGON Championships on Tuesday. The 6'6'' Argentine missed almost all of last season due wrist surgery, but he has returned with a vengeance. Del Potro did not get a favorable draw at the French Open, but he managed to advance two rounds before taking a set off Novak Djokovic. Back up to No. 22 in the world, Del Potro is an impressive 29-7 for the year.

Up first for the No. 12 seed at Queen's Club is Istomin, and the two players have never faced each other. Istomin comes in at a respectable ranking of 61st, but he is a disappointing 6-12 this season. The unseeded Uzbek has won only one of his last six matches and he is coming off an opening-round loss at Roland Garros to Fabio Fognini. Del Potro is not at his best on grass, but he should advance to round two in straight sets.

Michael Berrer vs. (5) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

Berrer and Tsonga will also be squaring off for the first time in their careers when they do battle in second-round action on Tuesday. Tsonga got a bye as the No. 5 seed, but Berrer had plenty of work to do on Monday. The 79th-ranked German outlasted Ryan Harrison 7-6(7), 2-6, 7-5 and earned his only break of the match in the final game. Berrer is now 11-9 at the ATP level this season and recently enjoyed a third-round performance at the French Open.

Tsonga will be looking to recover from a third-round collapse in Paris, where he led Stanislas Wawrinka by two sets and a break before losing in five. The Frenchman is a mediocre 17-11 on the year and he finds himself down at No. 19 in the world. Still, Tsonga's power game can work well on grass and he also has an edge in the rest department. Look for the No. 5 seed to prevail over Berrer in straight sets.
